A Brahmin woman in Surat, Gujarat has demanded the Gujarat High Court to order the government to issue a “No Caste, No Religion” certificate to her. Kajal Govindbhai Manjula (36) has filed a petition in a court through his lawyer Dharmesh Gurjar. In which a certificate of “No Cast, No Religion” should be issued on the lines of Sneha Prathibaraja Case of Madras High Court.
According to Kajal, she has to face a lot of discrimination in the society because of her caste. Now she does not want to carry this identity with her. At the same time, the petition filed on his behalf states that “the petitioner has to face a lot of troubles in the society because of the caste system. Many a times they have been treated discriminately due to caste. The petition further said that the petitioner comes from Rajgor Brahmin society, even after that he has to face discrimination in the society.
Gotra has already left: In the petition, she has told that earlier she has got her name removed in the Gazette of Gujarat Government in August 2021 for the removal of Gotra ‘Shilu’.
Works in IT Sector: Kajal holds a Master’s in Science degree and is working in IT in Ahmedabad. Presently lives in Junagadh due to dispute with her family. His case will be heard in the High Court next week.
Such a case has also come in 2018: In July 2018, Rajveer Upadhyay of Ahmedabad then moved the High Court. When the District Magistrate refused to change his religion from Hindu to atheist saying that it comes under the anti-conversion law. According to the Act, any person can go to any other religion but by changing the religion in law, one cannot become an atheist or secular.
Upadhyay said that he was born in a Hindu Garoda Brahmin family which comes under the Scheduled Caste category. He has faced harassment many times in the society because of his caste. His petition is still pending in the court.
