Ranchi, Aug 11 (IANS) | The Jharkhand government on Wednesday announced a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh each to two women hockey players from the state who participated in the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian team finished fourth in the Olympics. Two players Salima Tete and Nikki Pradhan reached Ranchi on Wednesday. He was accorded a warm welcome by the state government at the airport with music and dance.
From the airport, both the players went to the secretariat, where Chief Minister Hemant Soren felicitated them in a ceremony. Each of them was given a check of Rs 50 lakh, a scooty, a laptop and a smartphone. Chief Minister Hemant Soren also announced to convert their houses from huts to pucca houses. He also announced that if women hockey players and coaches face any medical problem while playing, the state government will bear the cost of their treatment.
Soren said, “Girls are making us proud despite the lack of facilities like roads, electricity and water. It is our responsibility to take care of their facilities and resources. The state government has decided to realize the dream of residential sports center which Will be equipped with sports facilities for badminton, football, hockey and other sports.
