The case of Merelgada village of Noamundi block of West Singhbhum, the accused absconded when the matter came to light.
In this world, there is no more wealth for a parent than that of his/her child and for a child there is no one more important than his/her parents, but sometimes we hear such news which destroys this relationship. A similar case has come to the fore again in Merelgada village of Noamundi block of West Singhbhum, where a father had made a deal for his newborn daughter four days ago for just 30 thousand rupees.
According to the information, Budhvaram Chatomba, a resident of Merelgada village of Noamundi block and a driver by profession, made his 28-day deal just to have a liquor party with friends. On getting information about this from the villagers, when Surendra Chatomba, Manki of Param Baljodi and Jairam Barjo, Munda (head) of the village reached Budhram’s house, the whole matter came to light. As soon as the accused father saw the villagers along with Manki and Munda, he fled. If people are to be believed, four days ago a man and three women had come to the house of accused Budhram with two wives and nine children. The accused husband gave his 28-day-old daughter to her saying that there are so many children already, they are finding it difficult to raise them. This deal was done for thirty thousand rupees. When and where the transaction of money took place, no one except the accused is aware of it. People also say that Budhram had made a deal in the womb itself.
Wife Unwasi told that after getting the money, her husband is spending it on drinking and drinking Hadiya (liquor) with friends by not giving money for the expenses of the house. Budhram has six daughters from his first wife Janika Chatoba, while Unvasi has three daughters and a son. One of them was sold to the innocent. Elder daughter Rashmi Chatomba is 4 years old, Sunika Chatoba is 3 years old, Krishna Chatoba is 2 years old.
The elders of the village believe that selling a child is a legal offense and Budhram has committed the crime. He should be punished by all means. Also, taking someone’s child by giving money is wrong. The legal process of adopting the child should have been completed. In such a situation, the buyer of the child is also guilty and action should be taken against both. At present the accused is absconding and his search is on.
