New Delhi, July 17 (IANS)| Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to confer Bharat Ratna on eminent environmentalist Late Sunderlal Bahuguna. The CM said that at a time when the sense of environmental protection was not even in the international discourse, at that time Sunderlal Bahuguna, realizing the danger looming over the whole world, dedicated himself to protect the environment. The Chipko movement started by Sunderlal Bahuguna started from the Himalayas in North India and reached Karnataka in the South. The CM said that we have installed the picture of Sunderlal Bahuguna in the Delhi Assembly, so that his life and the yagya started by him for environmental protection, continues to inspire and guide the policy control of Delhi. On behalf of Delhi Government, I request that Late Sunderlal Bahuguna should be honored with the title of Bharat Ratna. Conferring Bharat Ratna on Sunderlal Bahuguna would only honor this honor.
It is further written in the letter that this year we are entering 75 years of independence of the country. Sunderlal Bahuguna spent his childhood fighting for the freedom of the country in the freedom struggle inspired by Mahatma Gandhi. At a time when the world was blindly engaged in the exploitation of the environment and the sense of environmental protection was not even in the international discourse, at that time, sensing the danger to the nation and the whole world, he dedicated himself to the sacrifice of protecting the environment. .
