Four children died of suffocation due to a fire in the children’s ward of Kamala Nehru Hospital in a horrific accident in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. A sudden fire broke out in the children’s ward of the hospital on Monday. About 40 children were in the ward when the fire broke out. Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said firefighters and hospital staff managed to save the lives of 36 children.
On getting information about the fire, the fire brigade was called to the spot. 12 fire tenders immediately reached the spot and extinguished the fire. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. After the fire broke out in the pediatric ward of the third floor of the hospital, smoke spread throughout the hospital, causing panic among the patients as well as their families.

The hospital staff and security guards tried to evacuate the patients as well as their relatives from the hospital. Some patients and relatives also expressed their displeasure with the hospital staff. The situation was brought under control by calling the local police.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered setting up of a high-level committee to probe the fire at Kamala Nehru Hospital. Along with this, the Chief Minister had also provided assistance of Rs.4 lakh each to the family of the deceased.
