You must have heard about the incident of fire in many hospitals in the past. Now another incident of fire has come to light in another Kovid hospital in Maharashtra. A fire broke out at the Civil Hospital in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra on Saturday, killing 11 patients undergoing treatment in the ICU.
Let me tell you that this is not the first case in itself. On 23 April this year, when the second wave of the Kovid-19 epidemic was at its peak, 13 Kovid-19 patients died in a fire at the Vijay Vallabh Hospital in Virar, 60 km from Mumbai. A similar incident took place on March 26 this year in Bhandup, an eastern suburb of Mumbai, in which 10 corona virus-infected patients died. Apart from this, there have been many incidents of fire in the hospital.
After investigation after the accident, it was recommended that trained engineers should be deployed in government hospitals which are dependent on Public Works Department (PWD) for repairs etc. A six-member committee comprising health officials, engineers and fire officials found that the fire in the Sick Newborn Care Unit of the Bhandara District General Hospital spread through the heating system and electrical wiring.
At the same time, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis tweeted on the matter and demanded an inquiry into the incident. He wrote, “This is very shocking and disturbing news. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the Nagar Civil Hospital ICU fire incident. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. In-depth investigation should be done and strict action should be taken against all those responsible.”
