A criminal case has been registered against three doctors and a nurse of Jupiter Hospital in Thane. All of them are accused of leaving a surgical mop in the stomach of a patient during a caesarean operation. Police said a complaint was lodged in the matter by a civil surgeon from Thane district.
Giving information in the matter, Thane Police said that the complainant woman herself is a doctor in Satara. The woman has told in the complaint that she felt severe pain after caesarean section in May 2020. In this regard, he contacted surgeon Dr. Ashutosh Ajgaonkar, but he did not get any help. Meanwhile, the victim got a CT scan and other tests done and it was found that she had a surgical wipe and a metal bandage in her stomach.
The complainant woman said that she had to face dire consequences due to this colossal lapse, in which her intestine and one ovary were also damaged. Then in August last year, he also had surgery in Satara. Now surgeon Dr. Ashutosh Ajgaonkar, assistant surgeon Dr. Supriya Mahajan, anesthetist Dr. Chinmayi Gadkari and a nurse are facing charges in this case. As per rules, his complaint to the police was investigated by a special medical committee.
According to the police, now a case has been registered against three doctors and a nurse under sections 308 and 34 of IPC in this case. A police officer said that no arrests have been made so far and investigation is on in the matter. At the same time, in a statement issued by Jupiter Hospital, the surgeon concerned has said that the patient was taken to the operation theater at that time as the child’s heart rate was rapidly decreasing.
The surgeon told that an emergency caesarean surgery was performed to save the lives of the mother and the baby. The patient had bleeding profusely since the birth of the child. So emergency measures were taken to control the bleeding and prevent the hysterectomy (removal of the uterus). The life of both the child and the mother was saved due to the procedure carried out immediately at the right time.
