During the assembly elections, many parties including the Aam Aadmi Party made many announcements to woo the people. However, along with the BJP, the bureaucrats also feel that this is wrong. In the meeting with PM Modi, the bureaucrats expressed concern over the schemes and said that they are not economically viable. Might take them on their way to Sri Lanka. However, it is not clear which schemes the bureaucrats were referring to.
According to the news of the Times of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with senior bureaucrats took place on Sunday. Modi held a four-hour long meeting with secretaries of all departments at his camp office at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg on Saturday. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister PK Mishra and Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba besides many other top bureaucrats of the Central Government also attended the meeting.
The two secretaries referred to a populist scheme announced in the recent assembly elections in a state which is in financially poor shape. Referring to the announcement of similar schemes in other states, he said that these states are not financially capable. Such promises can lead the states on the way to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is currently facing the worst economic crisis in history. People have to stand in long lines for fuel, cooking gas. The supply of essentials is short. Also, people are suffering for weeks due to prolonged power cuts.
Earlier during the meeting, Modi told the bureaucrats that the way the secretaries worked together as a team during Corona, they should work in the same way. They should act as Secretaries to the Government of India and not just as in-charge of a department. He also asked the secretaries to give feedback along with giving suggestions on the lapses in the policies of the government. This was the ninth meeting of the Prime Minister with the Secretaries since 2014.
