The explosion was so strong that the body parts of the father and son were thrown for several meters. The father’s name was Kalainesan and his seven-year-old son’s name was Pradeep and the incident took place when the two were on their way to Koonimedu village on Kottakuppam East Coast Road in Villupuram district on Thursday.

According to sources, Kalainesan was on his way to his in-laws’ house along with his seven-year-old son at Koonimedu village in Villupuram district. He had two bags of indigenous firecrackers for the fireworks. When they crossed Kottakuppam in Villupuram district, the firecrackers in the bag exploded, burning the father and son to death on the spot. The explosion was so strong that both of their bodies were split into several pieces and scattered at different places. After getting information about the incident, top officials including the DIG of Villu Puram reached the spot and also interrogated the people around. A thorough investigation has also been conducted by a team of forensic department. The police suspect that due to friction and heat, the firecrackers may have exploded.
Those who were seriously injured in the incident have been taken to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. He is currently being treated there.
