Could not enter politics due to changed circumstances
Chennai, July 12 (IANS)| In line with his earlier decision not to enter Tamil Nadu politics, superstar Rajinikanth on Monday announced the change of Rajini Makkal Mandaram to Rajinikanth Fans Welfare Mandaram. In a statement, Rajinikanth said there is a need to clarify the position of Rajini Makkal Mandram after the announcement of his decision not to enter politics.
The actor’s fan club, ‘Rajinikanth Fans Welfare Mandaram’ was turned into a political outfit Rajini Makkal Mandaram after he announced his plans to enter Tamil Nadu politics. According to Rajinikanth, he could not enter politics due to changed circumstances and he has no plans to do so in future. He requested the office-bearers of Rajini Makkal Mandaram to dissolve it and act as Rajini Fans Kalyan Mandaram without tying up with any other organisation.
The actor had refused to enter active politics late last year, citing the Covid pandemic and his own health. On December 31, 2017, Rajinikanth had announced his decision to form a political party to practice ‘spiritual politics’ and contest all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu in 2021. The actor had then said that his entry into politics was a compulsion of the times as the country’s politics had gone wrong.
