The Supreme Court of the country has given a big blow to the Maharashtra government. In fact, the Supreme Court has transferred all the cases registered by Maharashtra Police against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh to the CBI. The court has asked the police to hand over all the records to the CBI within a week.
In the case, the court said that the way the former home minister and former police commissioner of a state have leveled allegations against each other, the truth behind it is necessary to come out. Public confidence in the system has been hurt by such allegations. Passing order on Parambir Singh’s plea, a bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundaresh said that for the time being, his suspension will remain in force.
Apart from this, if any case is registered against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh in the coming time, then that too will be transferred to CBI. Let us tell you that in the year 2021, the state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was accused by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh that he had asked the police to extort Rs 100 crore every month from dance bar and hotel owners.
The Bombay High Court had on 5 April 2021 last year ordered the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the matter. Then it was also upheld by the Supreme Court, after which Anil Deshmukh had to leave the post of minister and he was also arrested. After this, Parambir Singh filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that retaliatory action is being carried out against him.
Parambir had told in the petition that in the discharge of his duties, the corrupt police officers whom he had punished, later about half a dozen cases were registered against them as complainants. Today, the counsel appearing for the Maharashtra government in the matter opposed Parambir’s plea. Advocate Darius Khambata said that handing over the probe to the CBI will affect the morale of the state police.
Senior advocate Darius Khambata, appearing for the Maharashtra government, said that in the case, Parambir is showing himself as a whistleblower against corruption. While he himself has serious allegations. However, the judges rejected these arguments, saying they were not looking at Parambir as a whistleblower but were concerned about people’s faith in the system.
