There have been many types of serial killers in the crime history of the country, who shocked millions of people with their methods of crime and their stories. The Bear Man was named among the killers like Auto Shankar, Lady Killer and Cyanide Mohan. This cynical murderer once shed blood in the streets of Mumbai.
The year was 2006 and the month was October. Like normal days in Mumbai, people were moving towards the local train. Then some people found the dead body of a man on the footover bridge of Marine Line station. On being informed about the incident, the police reached and found that the body was that of a taxi driver named Vijay. The PM report revealed that he was lynched.
Two months after this incident, again in December, a dead body was found at Church Gate station. Here an empty beer bottle was found near the corpse. After this, a total of 7 dead bodies were found till 15 January. All these murders between Marine Line station and Church Gate station had only one way. There was an investigation in the cases but then the murderer was still away from the grip of the police. There was an atmosphere of panic among the common people.
The media also took up this matter prominently and this murderer was named ‘Beer Man’. After a lot of searching, the tired Mumbai Police formed an SIT. There was just an empty beer bottle in the name of the proof. The police put full force and then on January 22, 2007, a person named Ravindra Kantrol was detained on suspicion from Dhobi Talav area. He was wearing clothes splattered with blood and a dagger was found. Then in the narco test held in February, the accused confessed to 15 murders.
Ravindra Kantrol told that she is a drug addict and because of that she carried out these murders. According to Ravindra, he would catch his victim after getting drunk and then ask him to drink beer. When asked the reason behind the murders, he simply said that he was in love with blood. When the case of three murders went to the local court, he got life imprisonment in January 2009 for one murder.
Subsequently, in September 2009, the Bombay High Court acquitted Ravindra Kantrol due to lack of evidence and holding several tests presented by the police as invalid. The police had submitted the report of brain mapping, narco test, polygraph test to get him punished, but the court in its decision said that the forensic report against Kantrol cannot be valid. However, later Ravindra Kantrol changed his religion to Abdul Rahim.
