The country’s top industrialists, including Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, have expressed confidence in the TMC (Trinamool Congress Party)-ruled West Bengal led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. These businessmen have committed to invest Rs 20,000 crore in the state.
These businessmen met the CM at the 6th session of Bengal Global Business Summit-2022 (BGBS) on Wednesday (April 20, 2022) in Kolkata. The Adani Group committed to invest Rs 10,000 crore in Bengal during the next decade alone.
The group will make this investment in port and infrastructure sectors such as data centres, ocean cables, centers of excellence, warehousing and logistics parks to grow its business in the state. Adani Group chief Gautam Adani said that this investment will directly and indirectly provide employment to 25,000 people in West Bengal.
At the same time, JSW Chairman Sajjan Jindal did not announce the investment amount, but he has expressed his intention to build a 900 MW pumped storage hydroelectric project. An investment of Rs 7,000 to 7,500 crore is required for a project of this size.
Not only this, Sanjeev Mehta, MD of Hindustan Unilever, praised the state government. Also said that the Chief Minister has the courage and conviction to dream of a change. He further informed that the company has four factories in Bengal and will continue to invest in physical infrastructure and market.
Meanwhile, Tata Steel Managing Director and CEO TV Narendran said the group will invest Rs 600 crore to expand its business in the state, while Hiranandani Group chief Niranjan Hiranandani has decided to set up a data center and industrial logistics park. Committed to invest Rs 1,500 crore in the state.
Meanwhile, the CM has requested Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to convey to Delhi that the industrialists should not be harassed by the agencies.
CM said this at the end of his address in the program. Looking at the Governor, she said- “Your Excellency, please don’t feel bad… I have one thing for you from the entire industry… I want you to tell Delhi that we need full help from the Centre. But tell Delhi that industrialists should not be harassed through agencies.”
After the CM’s speech was over, there was loud applause at the venue. According to media reports, some industrialists who met the CM directly thanked him for raising the issue after the program. A Mumbai businessman was heard saying to the CM, “Thank you didi, for this bold message. There is no doubt that this thing will be the headlines of tomorrow’s newspapers.
