In Telangana, 11 laborers were burnt to death in a horrific fire accident, while many people were injured. The incident is from Secunderabad in Telangana where fire broke out in a wooden godown. The fire was reportedly caused by a short circuit at around 4 pm and it spread to the entire godown within a few minutes. Workers were sleeping inside the godown who got burnt in the fire and 11 workers died painfully.
It is said that about 17 laborers were living in the warehouse and 4 to 5 laborers managed to escape from there and save their lives. While 1 laborer was rescued and his condition is said to be critical. The rescued laborer is being treated at Gandhi Hospital. The deceased are migrant workers from Chhapra district of Bihar. They have been identified as Bittu, Sikandar, Deepak, Pankaj, Rajesh, Raju, Chintu, Dinesh, Satyendra and Damodar.
Police commissioner CV Anand on the incident said, “The laborers were coming to work in the warehouse for the last three years and were getting Rs 12,000 per month as salary. As they could not find rooms on rent to live nearby, they were staying in a room on the first floor of the godown. Some of the dead died of suffocation due to smoke in their sleep.
The police commissioner further said, “The fire broke out in the electrical and plastic wires in the warehouse, due to which the fire spread very fast. Everyone got stuck on the first floor. A young man named Prem managed to jump and got injured. He is undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. The way electricity and plastic cables were kept carelessly in the godown is illegal. If the godown owner is found violating any rules, action will be taken against him.”
