Over the past several years, there has been a significant increase in the cases of suicide across the country. Due to various reasons, people commit suicide due to various reasons. Meanwhile, a case of suicide of an elderly couple has come to light in Barmer district, which is on the border between India and Pakistan. Investigation revealed that both the husband and wife were troubled by the atrocities committed by the daughter-in-law. The saddest thing is that even after death, the corpse was lying outside for almost 24 hours. When the couple’s son reached there the next day, he went and informed everyone about the incident.
It was only after getting information about the incident that the team of Nagana Police Station reached the spot and started further proceedings. When the villagers came to know about this, there was a stir in the whole village. Police station sources said that the incident took place in Bhurtiya village. Village’s Khumaram Jat and his wife Champadevi have committed suicide by consuming poison. According to the information received, Khumaram has two sons and the wife of one of them was living in her maternal home for the past several years. The daughter-in-law had also filed a case against her husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
The daughter-in-law was accused of atrocities on her in-laws for divorce and dowry. For the past several days, Khumaram and his wife were living in Balotra village. He had returned from Balotra only on Monday. He slept after dinner, although due to the poison in the food, he started vomiting and both of them gave their lives in agony. When the son came home the next day, he came to know about this.
On reaching home, the son informed the sarpanch about this. Due to which other people of the village including Sarpanch had reached there. After which the information was given to the police. On reaching the spot, the police sent both the bodies for postmortem. At present, further proceedings have been started after the police sent the dead body to the postmortem.
