The bulldozer has once again started with full speed as soon as Yogi Adityanath took over in UP. CM Yogi had said during the election campaign that the bulldozer would start again after the elections. Barely more than a week has passed since Yogi Adityanath was sworn in and already there have been two instances of bulldozers reaching the homes of the accused in rape cases. Bulldozers had reportedly reached their house to pressurize the accused to surrender.
On Thursday afternoon, the police took a bulldozer to the house of two brothers (Aamir and Asif) in Saharanpur district. Both the brothers have been accused of gang-raping a minor girl on the pretext of marriage. On March 25, the victim’s mother filed a case. 56-year-old Sharafat, father of both the accused brothers, has been booked for allegedly threatening and assaulting the complainant.
On reaching the house of the accused, the police allegedly threatened that the building would be demolished if they did not surrender within 48 hours. Both the accused belong to the house of the village head. In the video footage, a bulldozer is seen breaking three stairs leading to the first floor outside the house, which is being monitored by policemen. The police also warned the neighbors not to help the accused.
The SHO of the local police station said, “We wanted to tell the accused coming from influential families that action would be taken against them if they remain absconding. The staircase of the house was broken. Our action has a big impact on the ground. Before leaving the spot, we publicly announced that if any person is found providing any assistance to the accused, action will be taken against him also.”
