The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections saw a direct fight between the SP and the BJP on 305 seats. Of these 305 seats, BJP won 206 and SP 99 seats. In the 2017 assembly elections, there was a direct fight between the two parties on 191 seats, in which BJP won 156 and SP 35. Out of 305 seats, BJP won 206 seats with an average victory margin of 28,103 votes while SP won 99 seats with an average victory margin of 17,820 votes.
Of the other 49 seats the BJP won, 27 were against the SP alliance. The BJP won 19 seats in a direct contest with the Rashtriya Lok Dal. Whereas in a direct fight against Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) 6 and Apna Dal Kameravadi BJP won 2 seats.
The BJP’s victory margin against the SP dropped only marginally compared to the 2017 election. In 2017, when there was a direct fight between the two parties, the BJP won 156 seats with an average margin of 29,014 votes. While the SP had won 35 seats with an average margin of 14,803 votes.
