In the early trends of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party is lagging far behind the BJP. In the initial trends, SP is leading in 120 seats while BJP is leading in 276 seats. At the same time, SP MP Azam Khan is leading from Rampur assembly seat. Azam Khan, lodged in Sitapur jail, was nominated by the Samajwadi Party from Rampur seat in the assembly elections. While Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam is leading from Swar seat.
BJP targeted Azam Khan fiercely during the entire election campaign. From CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Modi to almost every BJP leader tried to surround the SP on the pretext of Azam Khan and mafia Mukhtar Ansari. Azam Khan is an MP from Rampur and he is contesting the assembly elections from his jail.
Recently, Azam Khan was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court in a case. However, he will have to remain in jail. Court has granted bail to Azam Khan in the land grab case but two more cases are pending against him. Because of this Azam Khan will not be able to come out of jail.
Amidst the ongoing counting of votes, Azam Khan has got 45607 votes in Rampur seat, while Akash Saxena of BJP is trailing behind him. BJP candidate got 7233 votes in front of Azam. At the same time, Nawab Kazim Ali Khan of Congress is running in third place in this seat, who has got 1437 votes.
Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam was also nominated by the Samajwadi Party from Swar seat, which is currently leading. Apna Dal (S) candidate Haider Ali Khan is contesting against Abdullah. Abdullah is leading by about 20 thousand votes.
A case was registered against Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam Khan for making two birth certificates. An FIR was also registered in the case of two birth dates being recorded on passport and PAN card. Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam was also lodged in Sitapur Jail. However, he has come out on bail.
