In the MLC elections of Uttar Pradesh, SP has cleared the way for BJP’s victory in Mirzapur and Hardoi. On Wednesday, SP’s MLC candidate from Mirzapur, Ramesh Yadav withdrew his nomination. Now BJP candidate Vineet Singh is sure to win unopposed. BJP candidate Ashok Agrawal’s unopposed election has been fixed in Hardoi district, because today SP’s official candidate Rajiuddin has withdrawn his nomination papers on the day of withdrawal of nominations.
Apart from these, there are many seats where BJP’s victory is being considered certain. In Mathura, Etah, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, the nomination of SP candidates was declared invalid. Nominations of SP candidates were canceled in Mathura, Etah seat while in Bulandshahr SP-RLD candidate withdrew his nomination. In Lakhimpur, the administration rejected all the three papers of SP candidate Anurag Patel. In his case, the administration says that the notary registration of the lawyer who prepared his affidavit has been canceled due to invalidation.
The nomination of SP candidate Udayveer Singh Dhakre for the Etah-Mathura-Mainpuri seat was cancelled. On Monday, when he went to file the second set of nominations, some people snatched the papers from his hands. Udayveer Singh alleges that the attackers tore his paper and beat him up. On the other hand, in Aligarh also the nomination of SP candidate Jaswant Singh Yadav was cancelled. In Badaun, SP’s Sinod Kumar Shakya withdrew his nomination. Here Bagish Pathak of BJP has been elected unopposed.
It is worth noting that out of 139 nomination papers filed for 30 seats in the first phase in the elections for 36 vacant seats of the Legislative Council, 34 nominations were canceled in the scrutiny held on Tuesday. Now a total of 105 candidates are left in the fray. Thursday 24 March is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. By that time some more drama could happen.
