Due to heavy rains on Sunday and Monday, incidents of landslides were also reported at many places.
Seven houses in Jamuni and Nalpoli Tok collapsed due to cloudburst caused by torrential rains in Jumma village of Dharchula, Uttarakhand. Seven people, including three innocent girls and their uncle and aunt, were buried under the rubble of the houses. The bodies of three girls and two women were found in the rescue operation launched after the accident. While the couple (uncles and aunts of the three girls) are still missing and their bodies are being searched. Four other people of Jumma village were also seriously injured in the incident. Police personnel including SDRF, NDRF and SSB are currently engaged in rescue and search operation.
The torrential rains that started on Sunday night caused massive landslides in Jamuni and Nalpoli Tok of Jumma village, destroying seven houses. Chandrasingh Dhami, his wife Hajidevi and three nephews Sanjana, Renu and Shiva were buried under the rubble in Jamuni Tok. The mother-in-law got buried in the rubble at Nalpoli Tok in Jumma village itself. Thus many more people are still feared to be buried under the debris. According to officials, the death toll could rise further.
At the same time, due to heavy landslides on the Nepal border, Kalindi river has been flooded and many parts of Uttarakhand have been flooded. Heavy rains on Sunday and Monday in Kapkot taluka have caused heavy damage to several villages. The mountains have also been submerged in water at many places.
