In the 90s, Dawood Ibrahim was ruling in Mumbai. Even sitting in Dubai, he was making Mumbai dance on his fingers. His D-company was carrying out illegal activities with the help of operatives. Whether it is drug smuggling or gold and silver smuggling. Goods were used to smuggle gold and silver through the sea, but once he was shocked when a boat full of silver overturned.
Inside Dawood’s D-company, many big gangsters and mafia were patronized, who worked for him. In the 80-90s, many gangsters like Subhash Thakur Baba, Sunil Sawant aka Sautya were considered close to Dawood. In the year 1991, a large consignment of silver ingots, smuggled to India from abroad by Dawood’s D-company, was to reach the sea (port).
In January 1991, the boat in which they were carrying silver ingots capsized for some reason in shallow water near a village called Vadrai, forcing the boxes full of silver ingots in it to land in the sea. The news of the flow of silver ingots spread to the surrounding villages, so people from the coastal areas reached, who swung whatever they found. When Dawood came to know about this, he contacted Jayendra Thakur alias Bhai Thakur in Vasai-Virar area of Thane district.
Bhai Thakur was strong in the Virar-Vasai area of Thane district. He was a local gangster without whose consent not a single leaf would move. Dawood asked him to help recover the looted silver. In such a situation, Bhai Thakur gave a message in Vadrai to return all the ingots. At first the villagers did not take this threat seriously but then Bhai Thakur’s henchmen spread terror on the village overnight.
The people there were beaten mercilessly until he recovered the stolen silver till the last block. Three villagers lost their lives in this vandalism. However, no one went to the police to file a murder report. Almost a year later, on January 3, 1992, when the incident came to light, the police swung into action. After the three murders, Bhai Thakur had to flee to Dubai and take shelter with Dawood Ibrahim.
