Jalaun (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 1 (IANS)| A 50-year-old woman fell into a creek here and kept herself afloat for 16 hours before she was finally rescued. The woman, identified as Jai Devi, was clinging to a piece of wood that had come in her way in strong currents. She was washed away in Yamuna on Friday.
Some 25 km away in Hamirpur, he was rescued by some sailors, who heard his call for help and pulled him out of the river. He was later reunited with his family by the police. According to reports, Jai Devi was on her way to her fields when she accidentally fell into the overflowing Kilander drain in Jalaun, which joins the Yamuna river.
After falling into the stream on Friday evening, she was washed away with a strong current that took her to the Yamuna river. She stuck to a wooden log and swam for more than 16 hours. In Manki village of Hamirpur district, when the boatmen saw him floating in the river, they informed the police and brought him out. He was admitted to a hospital and his son Rahul and daughter Vinita were informed and they reached out to him. Later, the police handed over the woman to her family members. Haraulipur police outpost in-charge Bharat Yadav said, “It was nothing but a miracle of God.”
