new Delhi: Jailed Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar will now give wrestling and physical fitness tips to his fellow prisoners. According to news agency ANI, DG (Prisons) told that, ‘We have given permission to Sushil Kumar to give fitness and wrestling coaching to those inmates who are interested in it. Of these, 6-7 prisoners are currently receiving coaching. Wrestler Sushil Kumar is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. He was arrested in the Sagar Dhankhar murder case.
Earlier, the jail administration had planned to involve Sushil Kumar in sports activities but it was postponed due to the third wave of COVID-19 in Delhi.

According to a report, according to the officials associated with the jail administration, Sushil Kumar’s coaching class will benefit those prisoners who want to learn some new sport and Sushil Kumar can also help them to keep fit and healthy. The prisoners will be busy and such a positive mindset will come in them that their energy can be used in the right direction. This will also help the prisoners to concentrate on their day-to-day work.
In September 2021, before the third wave of COVID-19, the Delhi Jail Department had started the initiative to provide professional training to the inmates of Tihar in various sports. Under one project, prisoners were being trained in six sports – Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Chess and Carrom.
Sushil Kumar was arrested on March 23 last year for his involvement in the Chhatrasal Stadium massacre. Kumar and his associates allegedly assaulted wrestler Sagar Dhankhar and his friends on the intervening night of May 4-5, following which Dhankhar died.
