Tirath Singh Rawat became the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in the year 2021. Rawat was invited to a workshop organized by the Uttarakhand Public Commission regarding the protection of child rights in Dehadun. During this time, the then CM Tirath Singh Rawat had commented about women wearing torn jeans. Tirath had said, “Scissor values – showing knees, wearing torn denim and looking like rich kids – all these values are being taught to children. If all this is not coming from home, then where is it coming from? What is the fault of the school and teachers in this? I am showing my knees in torn jeans. Where am I going with my son? Girls too are no less, they are showing their knees, is this a good thing?”

After this statement, women across the country became angry and were protesting against it by posting photos with torn jeans on social media. Bollywood also gave full support in its support, many actresses also protested against it by sharing such posts. These included Amitabh’s granddaughter Navya Nanda, Jaya Bachchan and Gul Panag.
