London: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, his Conservative Party colleagues and opposition Labour Party leader Keir Starmer on Thursday began campaigning for the general election with full vigour. Sunak had announced a day earlier that the country would hold a general election on July 4, just six weeks later. Indian-origin leader Rishi Sunak (44) created a stir in the country’s political corridors with his speech from the steps of 10 Downing Street amid rain on Wednesday evening. Prime Minister Sunak has given the slogan of “clear plan, bold steps, secure future” for the election.
‘I will fight for every vote’
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said while starting a campaign program in East London, “For the next few weeks I will fight for every vote.” When asked the reason for announcing the election while getting drenched in the rain, Sunak said that it shows that he is not a leader who retreats in adverse times. He said, “I believe very much in the traditions of our country and when the Prime Minister makes such important statements, he does so from the steps of Downing Street, whether it is raining or scorching sun. I believe in those traditions and that is why I did this.”
This is how the leader of the Labor Party campaigned
Starmer, leader of the opposition Labour Party, started his campaign with the word ‘change’. He said, “On July 4, you have a choice. Together we can stop the chaos. We can start rebuilding Britain and transform our country.”
