New Delhi. A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi meditates for three days in his seclusion in Kanyakumari, Congress on Wednesday approached the Election Commission. Congress said that this step of PM Modi is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi met Election Commission officials at the Election Commission office in Delhi. After this, he told the media that ‘We have told the Election Commission that no one should be allowed to campaign directly or indirectly during the 48-hour silence period.’
However, Abhishek Manu Singhvi of the Congress clarified that the party is not against any leader doing anything. He said that on the other hand, PM Modi’s meditation would be a violation of the model code of conduct as the meditation period will be from May 30 to June 1. Singhvi remarked that this seclusion is a strategy by the Prime Minister to either continue the campaign in some way or keep himself in the headlines.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Singhvi said, “We have told the Election Commission that the Prime Minister should postpone his ‘maun vrat’ for 24-48 hours till the evening of June 1. But if he insists on starting it tomorrow, the media should be instructed not to broadcast it.” In 2019 too, Prime Minister Modi visited the Badrinath and Kedarnath temples before the announcement of the results of that year’s Lok Sabha elections.
