Amid the war with Ukraine, Russia claims it has opened 10 corridors from Moscow, including one from each city, to evacuate civilians and foreign nationals from the cities of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mariupol. Russia, on the other hand, also alleged that Ukraine has taken hostage around 7,000 people from different countries while 70 ships are stranded at ports.
In a statement on Friday, Russia claimed that a corridor is being built through areas controlled by Kyiv authorities to the west of Poland, Moldova and Romania.
“Out of the ten routes we have proposed, Ukrainians have agreed to only two, including Kyiv and Mariupol,” the Russian embassy said.
The authorities in Kyiv additionally announced four more routes in the Izium, Energodar, Volnovakha and Zhytomyr directions.
Russia’s statement further said, “23,127 more people have taken refuge in Russia in the last 24 hours alone and among them are already 26,19,026 living in about 2,000 settlements in Ukraine.
The report stated that, “34,555 people, including 3,562 children, were evacuated from various regions of Ukraine, as well as Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, without the participation of the Ukrainian side, and more than 2,23,000 people were evacuated from the start of the special military operation.” Evacuations have since been continued, of whom 50,258 were children.”
According to the statement, on Friday the Russian armed forces ensured the safety of movement from the city of Enjerdar to Zaporozhye in 13 buses, 130 private cars with 957 refugees and managed to evacuate more than 62,000 refugees.
Russia said 7,000 people from 21 foreign countries were being held hostage by Ukrainians.
Currently, there are more than 50 foreign ships in Ukrainian ports, operated by foreign nationals from Azerbaijan, Greece, Georgia, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, the Philippines, Jamaica and many more.
“We call on the Ukrainian side to strictly adhere to the norms of international humanitarian law and ensure the safe evacuation of foreign ships from Ukrainian ports and territorial seas,” he added.
“We emphasize once again that the Russian Armed Forces do not pose a threat to the people,” the statement said. More than 9,500 temporary housing centers are operating in the regions of Russia.
Today, 23 humanitarian works are being carried out in the Kharkiv, Zaporozhye, Kyiv and Chernigov regions, during which 284 tons of basic needs, including food, are being transferred to the population.
