Russia has announced that it will stop supplying electricity to Finland from Saturday. It is believed that Russia has taken this step regarding Finland’s decision to join NATO. Recently, Finland’s President and Prime Minister announced that their country supports the application to join the NATO organization. Necessary steps are being taken in this regard. The Prime Minister and President of Finland had said that the Nordic country should now take membership of the Western Alliance without delay to compete with the Soviet Union. It is believed that Russia is upset with this decision of Finland and has refused to give electricity to Finland.
The event of Finland joining NATO does not bode well for Russia. Russia has a border of about 1,340 km with Finland. Russia now worries about what infrastructure NATO develops near Russian borders. Russia feared that Sweden and Finland might join NATO. For this, Russia had also warned Sweden and Finland in the past that if they join NATO, it will have far-reaching military and political consequences.
Russia is already engaged in strengthening its position near NATO borders. Russian President Vladimir Putin recently ordered the strengthening of security along Russia’s western borders. Now Russia will also have to exert its strength on the borders with Sweden, while NATO forces will now reach very close to the border of Russia after the treaty with Sweden, which is being considered diplomatically against Russia.
