A general of Russian soldiers besieged Ukraine’s Mariupol port was killed in battle. His body was buried in St Petersburg on Saturday. The Governor has given this information. Major General Vladimir Frolov of Russia was the Deputy Commander of the 8th Army. According to Russian media, this army unit is among Russian soldiers stationed in Mariupol for weeks.
Alexander Beglov, the governor of St Petersburg, Russia, said in a statement that Frolov “died like a hero in the war.” He did not say when and where Frolov died. Photos posted on the Russian news website show red and white flowers at Frolov’s grave in the St. Petersburg cemetery. Ukraine has claimed that several Russian generals and several other high-ranking officers have been killed in the war.
At the same time, Russian forces on Saturday bombed an oil refinery in the Ukrainian city of Lisichansk, causing a huge fire there. The governor of the area gave this information. Luhansk regional governor Serihi Haidai said this was not the first time an oil refinery has been targeted. He alleged that Russian troops wanted to destroy the local emergency service. He said the refinery had no fuel at the time of the attack and the fire broke out in the “remnants of oil material”.
Ukraine’s presidential office said on Saturday that in the past 24 hours, Russian forces opened fire in eight regions – Donetsk, Luhansk and Kharkiv in the east, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Kirovohrad in central Ukraine and Mikolyev and Kherson in the south.
