Sandeep Lamichhane
Former Nepal cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane’s dream of playing in the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and US is almost shattered. When Nepal’s team was announced for this mega event, Sandeep was in jail in a rape case, but the court there recently acquitted him of all the charges, after which it was expected that Sandeep would soon become a part of the Nepal team for the T20 World Cup, for which he had also applied for a US visa, but it was rejected by the US Embassy in Nepal, after which Sandeep expressed his disappointment by posting on social media, while after Sandeep’s US visa was rejected for the second time, his way to play in this mega event is now almost closed.
Fans in Nepal took to the streets in support of Sandeep
After the US embassy rejected Sandeep Lamichhane’s visa application for the second time, according to a report in CricNepal, the fans are protesting on the issue by taking to the streets, demanding a visa for Sandeep. Last year, a 17-year-old girl accused Sandeep Lamichhane of rape, after which Sandeep lost the captaincy of the Nepal team and a Kathmandu court sentenced him to 8 years in prison. However, Sandeep challenged the lower court’s decision in the High Court, after which he was acquitted. After this, Sandeep was hopeful that he would be able to participate in the T20 World Cup, but with his US visa being rejected twice, his dream is now almost completely shattered.
