Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot during a speech at an election campaign event on Friday, injuring him seriously. According to officials, 67-year-old Abe was immediately airlifted to a hospital but died during treatment. The assassination of the former Prime Minister of Japan has shocked the whole world. Police have arrested the suspected assailant who opened fire on Shinzo Abe from the scene. The suspected attacker has been identified as 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami.
According to local media reports, Yamagami is said to be a resident of Nara city. According to Japanese media house NHK, Yamagami was dissatisfied with Shinzo Abe and wanted to kill him. According to a Fuji TV report, 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami is reportedly a former Marine Self-Defense Force soldier.
An eyewitness to the attack told a local media house that the assailant did not try to escape after shooting at Shinzo Abe. He put down the gun and remained on the spot when Abe was caught by security personnel. The weapon used in the attack on Abe was a self-modified gun. Whereas the police had earlier described it as a shotgun.
At the same time, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Minister Hirokazu Matsuno said on the incident of the deadly attack on Shinzo Abe that such a barbaric act is completely unforgivable, whatever the reason… and we strongly condemn it. Shinzo Abe died during treatment in the hospital. Shinzo Abe had heart failure and his body parts stopped working. The Prime Minister of India has condoled the death of the 67-year-old former PM of Japan and has announced a day of national mourning in the country on July 9, 2022.
