Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has always been in the news for his strong batting and outspoken rhetoric. Apart from this, there has also been a lot of discussion in and out of the field between Sehwag and former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Veeru has now said some such things, which can set Shoaib Akhtar on fire. Sehwag said that Akhtar himself knew that he bowls discus and his bowling action was not good.
During a conversation with Sanjay Manjrekar on Sports18’s show ‘Home of Heroes’, he said, ‘Shoaib knew that his elbows were bent and he would throw the discus ball. Otherwise why would the ICC have banned him? Brett Lee’s hand was straight, so it was easy to catch his ball, but it was not like this with Shoaib, you do not know where his hand is coming from and where the ball will come from.
Sehwag said that he found it difficult to face the balls of former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond. He said, ‘His ball used to swing and come near your body, this happened even when he used to bowl outside off-stump. I have never been afraid to face Brett Lee’s balls. But with Shoaib it was not known what he would do if I hit his boundary on the ball. Maybe throw a beamer or throw a yorker on the foot. Sehwag has smashed Akhtar’s balls a lot.
Sehwag said, ‘Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly all used to score centuries in 150-200 balls, if I had scored centuries in so many balls, no one would remember me. To make my mark, I had to score runs fast.
