A shocking survey has come out regarding Deepfake i.e. AI generated content. 1 out of every 4 people in India is facing deepfake content. These days Lok Sabha elections 2024 are being held in India. During the election season, more users are facing political content created by deepfakes or AI on social media every day. Cyber security company McAfee has released this report on Thursday, April 25.
Shocking figure of deepfake
According to a cyber security firm, about 75 percent of Indian users have encountered deepfake content. Most of these users have found AI generated political content on social media platforms. Of these AI generated content, 44 percent of the content used the face of a public figure or celebrity. At the same time, 31 percent content has been used to influence the elections.
McAfee said in its survey that in the last few months, cases of deepfake or AI generated content have increased rapidly in India, in which public and private figures have been used. Voice as well as visual appearance can be easily changed using AI. Due to deepfakes, the authenticity of the content is being greatly affected, which is going to be very challenging for the current election year.
The cyber security firm has surveyed more than 7,000 global customers regarding deepfakes, which includes users from India, UK, USA, France, Germany, Australia and Japan. The cyber firm has conducted this survey in the months of January and February this year.
Most cases of online fraud
According to the survey, in 55 percent of the cases, deepfake content is used to make online threats, 52 percent of the content is pornographic and 49 percent of the content is created for fraud. Apart from this, 27 percent of AI generated content has been created to influence historical facts. The most shocking statistic is that 64 percent of AI generated content used for online fraud has been extremely difficult to identify. 31 percent users have lost their money due to this.
