Bratislava: Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of European country Slovakia, was shot. PM Robert Fico, who was injured after being hit by bullets, has undergone another operation and his condition remains critical. Officials have given information about this. Fico, 59, was attacked as he greeted supporters after a government meeting in the town of Handlova, about 140 kilometers north-east of the capital Bratislava.
PM’s condition is serious
After being shot, PM Fico was taken by helicopter to the University F. D. Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bistrica. Hospital director Miriam Lapunikova said Fico underwent a CT scan and is currently admitted to the intensive care unit. He described his condition as “very serious”. “I think it will be several more days before we know for sure what the direction of progress is,” Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Robert Klink told reporters at the hospital.
The identity of the attacker was not revealed
The attack on PM Robert Fico comes as thousands of protesters are rallying in the capital and across the country to protest his policies. This incident has happened just before the parliamentary elections to be held in Europe in June. The police have not revealed the identity of the attacker. However, unconfirmed reports say the attacker is a 71-year-old retired man. The attacker was reported to have worked as a security guard at a mall in the south-west region of the country. Fico returned to power in Slovakia last year. Even before this he had been Prime Minister twice.

Slovakia’s Interior Minister Mateusz Sutaj Estok recently said that the attacker who fired at Prime Minister Robert Fico acted alone. Home Minister Estok said in a press conference that the person accused of the attack was not associated with any political party. (AP)
