The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday operated a special helicopter flight to airlift a jawan posted at a remote Line of Control (LoC) post in Jammu and Kashmir so that he could travel to his hometown located 2,500 km away in Odisha for his wedding. Be able to reach home on time.
The marriage of 30-year-old constable Narayan Behera, posted at a high altitude post in Machil sector near the Line of Control, is set to take place on May 2, a senior Border Security Force officer said. He said that at present the LoC post is covered with snow and its road connectivity with the Kashmir Valley is currently closed. Military air flight is the only available mode of transport for the soldiers stationed at these locations.
The family felt that the son would not be able to reach on time.
The officer said the jawan’s parents recently contacted the unit commanders. They were worried as all the preparations were done for the said date. He felt that his son would not be able to reach on time for his marriage. The matter was brought to the notice of BSF Inspector General (Kashmir Frontier) Raja Babu Singh.
Behera was brought to Srinagar in the early hours of Thursday by helicopter
Singh ordered that a helicopter of the force stationed in Srinagar, named Cheetah, airlift Behera immediately. The helicopter brought Behera to Srinagar in the early hours of Thursday. He is now going to his home in Adipur village in Dhenkanal district of Odisha. Singh said that he approved the air service because the welfare of the soldiers is his first and foremost priority.
