New Delhi/Srinagar. Engineer Rashid, who won the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir, will no longer be able to take oath as a Member of Parliament as a Delhi court on Tuesday rejected his interim bail plea. He had approached Delhi’s Patiala House Court on June 13 for interim bail in view of attending the swearing-in ceremony.
After hearing the bail plea, Additional Sessions Judge of Patiala House Court, Chandra Jeet Singh had sought a reply from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on his interim bail plea and the court had fixed the next hearing for Friday, the decision of which has now been announced.
The NIA arrested Rashid in 2019 in a terror funding case. Since then he is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Jailed engineer Rashid defeated National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah from Baramulla by a margin of more than two lakh votes. People’s Conference’s Sajjad Gani Lone came third. Abdullah accepted defeat and congratulated Rashid on his victory.
