Moscow. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are not easy, but there is some hope of a deal. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said this. “I am guided by the assessment given by our interlocutors. They say that the talks are not going well for obvious reasons,” Lavrov said in an interview with RBC, RT reported.
However, according to him, there is some hope of a settlement.
The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, said Russia’s goal in talks with Kyiv had not changed – Moscow needed a peaceful, free, neutral and independent Ukraine and needed ‘accords for generations to come’.
“We need a peaceful, free and independent Ukraine. A country that is neutral – not a member of military blocs, not a member of NATO, a country that is our friend, neighbor, with whom we can develop relations together,” he said. We are building our future and that is not a base for military and economic attacks against our country.”
Medinsky also explained why talks with Ukraine began online.
Medinsky continued, “There have been three rounds of one-on-one talks in Belarus, but we saw – since the logistics are very difficult, to save time, effort and money, we decided to go to Belarus with overnight stays. Have decided to avoid flights and confine myself to daily work from morning till evening in video conference format.”
