New Delhi: The Congress on Monday decided to constitute an Empowered Action Group to prepare for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The group has been formed following a report submitted by an eight-member committee on April 21.
According to sources, the group will work with political strategist Prashant Kishor (PK) for the party till the 2024 elections, but there is no official statement on this yet.
An eight-member group submitted a report to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on 21 April. Today he discussed the report with the group. Based on the discussions, the Congress President has decided to constitute an Empowered Working Group for 2024, the party said in an official statement.
Party general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said he did not want to comment on the group’s members. But as I said, the Empowered Action Group is for the general election 2024 and the group will prepare its strategy for the elections, he said.
Surjewala said he would refrain from commenting on the members of the group as the group is yet to be formed.
Congress wants Kishor to leave other parties and work only for Congress and not just as an advisor. The final decision can be taken after talks with Rahul Gandhi.
Congress does not want Kishor to have any links with regional parties.
Party leaders, who have submitted their reports on the issue, admitted that there is nothing wrong with a political strategist joining the party, but wherever the party stands against regional forces, there should be no conflict.
