Genome sequencing of 273 samples
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Medical Director of LNJP Hospital, said that genome sequencing of 273 samples has been done so far. Out of this, XBB and its sub-variants were found in 269 cases i.e. 98.6 percent. Out of this, the maximum XBB.1.16 variant has been found. XBB.1.16 variant has been found in 196 out of 273 samples, which is 71.79 percent. He said that in the rest also all variants of XBB have been found. XBB.2.3 has been found in 45 samples which is 16.48 percent. Apart from this, XBB.1.5 variant has been found in 16 samples, which is 5.86 percent of the total infected. While the BA.5.3 variant has been detected in 2 samples. He said that we should not take COVID very lightly. COVID has been found to be the primary cause of death of a patient on Sunday, so now everyone should follow COVID behavior. One should wear a mask, avoid going in the crowd and get tested if symptoms appear.
Currently, these variants are making Delhiites sick.
- Genome sequencing of 273 samples was done
- XBB and all its variants found in 269
- Number of samples infected with XBB.1.16 variant 196
- XBB.2.3 variant found in 45 samples
- XBB.1.5 found in 16 samples

Major variants and its sub-variants found in Delhi
theWhen the Corona was launched in Delhi, it was the first Alpha variant. After this beta and then gamma variants spread. The most dangerous was the delta variant, which created havoc in Delhi. Meanwhile, there were many more changes in the virus, but after this the Omicron variant spread in Delhi. This variant has the ability to spread much faster than the rest. Omicron has so far had over 600 lineages in circulation, due to which an additional mutation has occurred in its spike protein, which has now become the XBB.1.16 variant.
Patients are also increasing in hospitals
Dr. Akshay Budhraja of the Respiratory Department of Aakash Hospital said that the cases are increasing since last few days. However, so far the disease is mild in most people. There is fever for two to three days, there is a problem of cold, cold, sore throat. But, for the last two days such patients are also coming, who have to be admitted. Severe COVID is being found in them. Especially for those who have diabetes or kidney disease for a long time and are on dialysis, it is becoming dangerous for them. One patient is also on ventilator. He said that suddenly the number of Covid patients has increased in emergency.
How dangerous is the XBB.1.16 variant
Dr. Narendra Saini said that the rate of spread of infection in this is very high. However, more than 95 percent people in the country have immunity, whether it is due to natural infection or due to vaccination. We have protection. But for the last few days it is spreading rapidly, it is a dangerous sign, so now people should be alert. If symptoms are seen, they should be examined, if infection is found, they should be isolated so that they cannot give infection to others.
What should common people do on the precation dose?
Infection expert Dr. Narendra Saini said that the guidelines of the government are clear. Right now only people above 60 years and sick people have been advised for precaution dose. That’s why everyone should follow this guideline. If someone has taken the precaution dose and more than six months have passed since taking the dose, they should still wait for the new guideline.
