The Indian Railways on Friday successfully test-fired the Kavach system designed to prevent train collisions in Secunderabad, Hyderabad. Railway Minister Ashwin Vaishnav and Railway Board Chairman Vinay Kumar Tripathi were present during this testing.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the media after testing the automated train protection technology that if two trains are coming face to face on the same track, the armor automatically stops them at a safe distance. If the train moves towards the red signal, it will automatically slow down and stop. Kavach will be installed on 2000 kms this year and will target 4000 to 5000 kms every year in the coming years. Ashwini Vaishnav told that this example of self-reliant India will also be exported to the developed countries of the world.

According to media reports, the Kavach technology monitors all the movements of the loco pilot, brakes and total handle, etc., while driving the train. During this, if there is any mistake with the driver, then Kavach first alerts through audio or video. But even after this, if no response is received, then automatic brake is applied in the train. Apart from this, due to armor technology, the train can run only up to the prescribed section speed. According to railway officials, this technology will be installed on busy rail networks like Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Kolkata, Delhi-Chennai, Delhi-Jammu, Chennai-Kolkata etc. The Kavach system is run by technology like GPS and Radio Frequency etc.
