The Supreme Court took the state government to task over the massive fire that broke out in the forests of Uttarakhand and asked why forest fire personnel were deployed on election duty. From the government’s side, the court asked why have you put the forest fire brigade personnel on election duty amid the fire?
The court said- you are just making excuses
A state official told the court that the election duty of the employees has ended and the Chief Secretary has directed them not to put any officer on election duty. On this, the division bench of the Supreme Court said that this is a regrettable situation. You are just making excuses.
Uttarakhand’s lawyer said that no money was received from the Center to extinguish the fire.
During the hearing of petitions on forest fire in Uttarakhand, advocate Parameshwara today said that there is a severe fire there and 40 percent of the forest is in the grip of fire. It could not be extinguished. Responding to the lawyer, the lawyer of Uttarakhand said that no new fire has started. The lawyer further argued that the state government has not received funds from the Center to deal with the forest fires. It further said, “A six-member committee from the Center and the state can help so that these fires can be controlled. We are in a position to extinguish the fire. More than 9,000 people are working and 420 cases have been registered. We are having a meeting.
The bench asked these questions
The lawyer said that funding is a big issue now. If there was proper funding the situation would have been better. The Center will have to come forward to help the state. The bench asked the lawyer whether he had done anything to “purchase equipment” as “there were 280 fires in Uttarakhand alone.” The counsel for this government said that we had filled 1,205 posts last year and the rest are in the process.
