These days strange conditions are prevailing in the textile industry, which is considered to be the main link of Surat’s economy. Another textile trader is happy with the good sales and is satisfied with the losses being incurred in the last covid period. On the other hand, there is such an air in the market that after Diwali, there is a possibility of the dyeing and printing mills of Surat going on a long holiday.
There is a buzz in the market that if the processing units go on a long holiday after Diwali, it will have an impact on the textile traders and their sales. There is a discussion among the traders in the textile markets that the processors are trying to increase their job charges by citing long holidays. On the other hand, the pain of processors is the opposite.
According to media reports, processors are troubled by the rising cost these days. According to him, the cost has increased to such an extent that it has become difficult for them to run the processing units.
Surat’s leading industrialist Pramod Chaudhary has clearly said in an interview to the media that the increase in the price of coal for the processing units for some time has come as a time. According to him, the price of coal has increased from Rs. 5 thousand to Rs. 15 thousand and despite this coal is not available with exemption. Pramod Chaudhary termed the conflict between China and Australia behind this coal crisis. He told that China has stopped buying coal from Australia. Now it is lifting coal from Indonesia and it is even said that China is dumping all its production to meet its huge consumption. Coal is an important raw material in the processing units in Surat and mainly 80 per cent comes from Indonesia and 20 per cent from GMDC. Now the situation has worsened due to the increased cost of transportation in the post Kovid period after less supply from Indonesia.
Pramod Chaudhary believes that it is a compulsion for the processing units to balance their cost by increasing their job charges. Failure to do so may result in the closure of the units. He said that efforts are being made to find a solution to the situation by holding constant meetings and consultations with various constituents of the industry.
