Following claims and counter-reaction to the arrest of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga from his west Delhi residence, the Delhi Police on Friday asked his Punjab counterpart to take him into custody in Kurukshetra and sent him to a local court for transit remand. Responding to Bagga’s arrest, Punjab’s Advocate General Anmol Ratan Sidhu told the media in Chandigarh that the state government was going to file a habeas corpus petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court as “our police officers were illegally arrested by the Haryana Police in Pipli”. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have defended the arrest, saying that the Punjab Police is acting in a fair manner and the action was taken after the BJP spokesperson refused to cooperate in the investigation even after serving five notices. .
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said they have collected information about Bagga, whom he claims uses “poisonous and hateful language” on social media.
