New Delhi. A major accident has happened in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. At least 11 people died due to electrocution during a chariot procession at a temple here in the morning. 15 other people have been injured in this incident. At the same time, while giving information about the incident, the police said, ‘This incident happened when people were standing on the palanquin of the temple, during this time they came in contact with a high-transmission line at the Upper Temple of Kalimedu.’ Officials say two children were also among those killed. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A senior police officer told the news channel that to avoid any untoward incident, the power line is generally switched off on the temple car road. “However, the sedan was not long enough to touch the high-transmission line, and thus the power supply was not cut off this time. But it seems that the height of the palanquin was increased due to the decorative structure, and as a result, it came in contact with the live wire.”
