Thangmuthu, a native of Uthampalayam in Tamil Nadu, has filed an application in the Madurai High Court seeking permission to fight without tying blades to the legs of a chicken to celebrate the Pongal festival. The petition states that the event will follow all the rules and precautions laid down by the Tamil Nadu government.
It has also been said in the petition that permission has been sought from the concerned authorities to organize the coke fight on January 16. The petitioner said, “The court order is mandatory for coke fight, so kindly allow us to organize coke fight on 16th January at Uthampalayam for the celebration of Pongal festival.
According to the information received, the petition came for questioning before Judge GR Swaminathan. During the hearing, the judge said that no blade or knife should be tied to the leg of the chicken. One should not fight to kill a chicken. The judge said that since January 16 is a Sunday, which has been declared as a complete lockdown, the next day on January 17, cock fighting will be allowed.
