Country’s leading automaker Tata Motors is working on a mid-size SUV for the Indian market, and it will be slotted below the Harrier in the brand’s domestic portfolio. That is, to further strengthen its SUV range, the domestic manufacturer is considering launching Blackbird SUV. Which was first discussed in the year 2018. Interestingly, the new model could be first introduced as an electric coupe SUV.
The upcoming five-seat BlackBird will compete with SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushak. According to the report, the Tata Blackbird will be built on the Indica Vista-derived X1 platform and will come with a length of around 4.3 meters with a 50 mm longer wheelbase than the Nexon. In this, the company will use an SUV coupe style. In which many elements of design can be taken from Nexon.
A range of 400km can be found in a single charge
The Tata Blackboard Coupe SUV is likely to be equipped with a massive 40kWh battery pack, thanks to which it will offer a range of over 400kms. The new model will be eligible for subsidy on electric vehicles. Due to which the price will also be lower. At the same time, the company will use the 1.2-litre Turbo Revotron unit in the Tata Nexon Coupe and Blackbird.
Along with this, the company will also have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and the existing 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged Revotorq diesel engine will be upgraded to produce more power and torque. Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected to be available as gearboxes.
Price
Notably, the company may also launch an electric version of the Nexon Coupe in India, and it could come with a larger battery pack enabling a higher driving range than the Nexon EV. Along with this, the upcoming mid-size SUV Blackbird is expected to be launched in India next year, which can be priced within 10 lakhs. At the same time, it is difficult to make any guesses about the price of the electric version, but it is expected that it can be made available in India at a lower price than Nexon.
