This is the story of Robin Singh, former best all-rounder and great fielder of Team India. Whose original name is Ravindra Ramnarayan Singh. Born on 14 September 1963 in Trinidad, West Indies, Robin is 60 years old. Being of Indian origin, his ancestors were living in the West Indies for the last 150 years. Robin’s story is no less than a film. Coming from West Indies to India and then to the Indian cricket team was not that easy, he had to go through a long struggle.
Came to India at the age of 19
By the way, Robin had started cricket in his childhood, he used to train in Trinidad only. Used to play cricket at school and club level in West Indies. Let’s start Robin’s journey from West Indies to India. In fact, in the 80s, a team from India named Hyderabad Blue went to West Indies to play a tournament. Then Robin Singh played in that match for Trinidad. Seeing his good performance, a person named Akbar Ibrahim invited him to come to India. He came to Madras in 1982 at the age of just 19.
Team India’s journey from college
In Madras, Robin started studying Economics at the University of Madras. Started playing cricket during education itself. After this, he remained in Chennai only. He started playing cricket in India, but got citizenship very late. When he got the citizenship of India in 1989, only then he was selected in Team India for the West Indies tour.
Teamman was Robin Singh
Robin Singh made his international debut against his former country West Indies, but he got a chance in only two matches in that series. After this, it took seven years to get the next chance. When he was tried again in 1996 at the Titan Cup. Robin remained a part of the team continuously till the year 2001. He is one of the few Indian players who are loved by the world for his fielding. He played 136 ODIs for Team India.
