New Delhi. The Indian cricket team is busy preparing for the T20 World Cup to be held in June, the Indian team has already been announced. However, an update is indicating that a new head coach may be appointed for Team India after June. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed in Mumbai on Wednesday that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon issue an advertisement for the new coach. Rahul Dravid is currently serving as the head coach of Team India, but his tenure is till June.
As a result, the search for a new head coach for Team India has started to ensure timely selection. Shah indicated that the possibility of a foreign coach has not been ruled out and the decision will depend on the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) as they are an international organisation. Additionally, Shah suggested that the board was unlikely to consider different coaches for different formats, a formula adopted by boards such as the England and Wales Cricket Board and even Pakistan. He confirmed that the new coach would be appointed on a long-term basis, serving for an initial period of three years. Regarding the impact player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Shah said that the decision regarding its continuation will be taken after consultation with the captains and coaches.
He stressed the importance of the rule, which allows two additional Indian players to remain in the IPL playing 11, potentially benefiting the all-rounders. He highlighted that this rule provides a chance to two new Indian players in the IPL. Shah mentioned that continuing the impact player rule will be discussed with all franchises before any decision is made, indicating that it is not permanent, but there has been no opposition to the rule so far.
