New Delhi. The High Court gave a unique punishment to the youth accused in the case of molesting a woman. The court ordered that the youth will have to stand at the traffic signal and render his services for a month. The judge also admitted that if the case was carried forward, bitterness between the two parties would increase. In view of the settlement between the young man and the girl, an order to cancel the FIR was issued.
In the case presented on the basis of the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered against the young man under IPC sections 354 (assault of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act). A case was registered. A petition was filed in the High Court on behalf of the accused, in which it was said that a settlement has been reached between both the parties. Therefore the FIR should be cancelled. It was stated that the victim no longer wishes to pursue her complaint, hence no useful purpose would be served by continuing the case further.

Will provide services at traffic signals…
The victim also told the court that she has resolved all the disputes with the petitioner on her own free will and without any pressure and she has no objection if the present FIR is quashed. After this, Justice Naveen Chawla said, “The FIR registered at Preet Vihar police station and all consequential proceedings against the petitioner are quashed with the condition that the petitioner will assist the traffic police at the traffic signal. Where he may be deputed by the DCP Traffic, East District for a period of 30 days, he will have to report to the DCP Traffic to provide assistance at the traffic signals assigned to him.”
The burden on the state will increase…
The High Court said that continuing the proceedings would create further bitterness between the two parties and would put unnecessary burden on the state exchequer. It said that at the end of 30 days, the DCP Traffic will issue a certificate to the petitioner, which he will have to file in the court within two months. The petitioner sought quashing of the FIR on the ground that the parties had amicably resolved their disputes and entered into a compromise.
