Russia-Ukraine war (File)
Moscow/London:
The biggest news is coming out about the Russia-Ukraine war. Reuters has quoted sources as saying that Putin has agreed to stop the Ukraine war. Reuters has made this sensational claim quoting 4 Russian sources. It has been said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to stop the war in Ukraine through talks. But the condition is that if Ukraine and Western countries do not react after the ceasefire. Three sources familiar with the discussions in Putin’s team said that the veteran Russian leader had expressed disappointment to a small group of advisers that Western countries were involved in disrupting the talks with Zelensky.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a request for comment that the Kremlin chief has repeatedly made it clear that Russia is ready for negotiations to achieve its goals, adding that the country does not want “eternal war.” Ukraine’s foreign and defense ministries did not respond to questions. Just last week, the appointment of economist Andrei Belousov as Russia’s defense minister was seen by Western military and some political analysts as putting the Russian economy on a permanent war footing in order to win a long conflict.
Putin wants to give momentum to Russia
It is being said that Russia no longer wants to drag out the war too long. Putin, re-elected in March for his new six-year term, will use Russia’s current momentum to put the war behind him. He did not comment directly on the new defense minister. Europe’s largest ground conflict since World War II killed thousands of people on both sides and led to widespread Western sanctions on Russia’s economy. Sources said Putin understands that any new progress would require another nationwide mobilization, which he did not want. His popularity declined after the first mobilization in September 2022, one source said.
